Job Description

  • Support attorneys through all phases of litigation-from initial investigation, discovery, trial preparation, to post-trial and appeals.
  • Conduct factual investigations; interview clients and witnesses; gather and organize evidence.
  • Perform legal research-case law, statutes, rules-and summarize findings for attorneys.
  • Draft legal documents: pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, subpoenas; prepare discovery requests and responses.
  • Manage the discovery process: collect, review, code, index, and produce documents; prepare deposition summaries.
  • Organize and maintain case files and exhibits-physical and electronic-including evidence tracking.
  • Prepare for trial: assemble binders, create exhibits, coordinate witness logistics, prepare jury instructions.
  • Provide in-court support: manage exhibits, take notes, coordinate testimony, support attorneys during trial.
  • Monitor calendars, deadlines, and court filings; e-file documents with state/federal courts using CM/ECF systems.
  • Serve as liaison between attorneys, clients, experts, vendors, courts, and opposing counsel.

  • Education: Paralegal certificate/Associate's/Bachelor's in Paralegal Studies; some require ABA-approved accreditation. [ottenjohnson.com]
